Our Small business had a big year…..
Hype is owned by Silver Lake residents Adrienne and David. They were regulars at a cycling and yoga studio that used to be in Hype’s location. In the Fall of 2017, the former studio abruptly closed. Adrienne, who was newly pregnant and heavily reliant on cycling as a pregnancy-friendly workout option, freaked out. She loved the instructors and welcoming community the previous studio had created so she started scheming about reopening a studio at 1932 Hyperion with many of the same instructors and same body-positive approach. Then she got her husband on board. The goal was to keep Silver Lake's unique cycling and yoga community going strong with a fresh approach for challenging our students. The Hype team came together quickly, with Silver Lake’s favorite instructors showing overwhelming love for their colleagues and students and taking a leap of faith with Adrienne and David to get the business off the ground. This outpouring of support allowed the Hype team to innovate class offerings, build a new yoga program, and produce a cutting edge and crowd-pleasing new class schedule in just a few weeks in order to open in January 2018.
Throughout our first year in business, Hype has continued to grow and change. We have built out a third studio in the building and developed our Strength Training + Group X program to include classes like Hype Barre, Cardio Pilates, and HIIT circuit training. We built out a child care area, now called the Kids Studio, to support our busy parents by providing $5 child care while they take class. We added Cycle Sculpt and Cycle + Strength classes to the Cycle Studio and Restorative Yoga and Reiki Meditation classes to the yoga studio for a more well rounded fitness practice. We hosted a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training and a Cycle Instructor Training that sold out! This year has been wild, and so fun. At the moment, we are in the process of adding thoughtfully curated retail items from local small businesses to our lobby area to provide even more amenities to our students and help raise awareness of other small businesses in the neighborhood.
Chris Gamel, who is familiar to many of you, is Hype's General Manager and one of our star instructors. His energy, experience, and love for his students and employees is front and center in his work. His goal is to be there for all of you to make sure Hype is offering the most sweat-inducing classes, the most talented instructors, the most welcoming environment, and the most results for every body at every fitness level.
We Love You, Silver Lake.
